About the Airline
Eurowings is owned by the Lufthansa group, and it was founded in 1996. The main feature of this airline is that the fares are significantly lower than the competitors operating on the same routes. Even though it is a low-cost airline, it is worth mentioning that the company does not only operate domestic flights, but the scale is International. However, Europe happens to be its main area of interest, since its bases are situated at Vienna, Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, and Dusseldorf airports.
It should also be noted that Eurowings went through a significant transformation in the last years. Previously, until 2014, it was a part of Lufthansa regional, that was the time when the airlines started operating for Germanwings. However, after spring 2015, it transformed into a low-cost carrier for both domestic and International flights. Moreover, by October 2015, it had scaled significantly and started incorporating the route network of Germanwings, since the two brands got merged lately.
After its formation, the airline had twin jets called ATR 72 and ATR 42. Later on, as they evolved and the business expanded, they were able to purchase BAe 146 as well. After these additions, the major one was when the company added Airbus A320 and A310. After considering all these major achievements, Lufthansa was not hesitant in 2001 to get about a quarter of stake in the airlines. Within three years, this stake grew to about 50% and gradually, until 2011, the group had ultimate control of the airline.

Soon after the takeover, Lufthansa started making reforms, and in 2010, the airline closed all of its infrastructures and headquarter in Dortmund. Instead, they moved to Dusseldorf and started operating from there. Furthermore, after one year, their maintenance division was also closed at Nurnberg Airport.
However, there was a major improvisation in the group, and short flights of Lufthansa that were not operated from Munich of Frankfurt were given to Eurowings. It was in 2014 when Lufthansa publicly announced that the airline would replace its Bombardier series J900 aircraft with more than 20 Airbus A320s. Well, that was a major move that benefitted the company to a significant extent. Some of these were bought fresh while the remaining were transferred from the main Lufthansa group.
One of the most significant changes came in 2016 when they ceased their services from Cologne to Tehran, and regular flights to Dubai were also limited.
