About the Airline
Brussels Airlines is the largest airline of Belgium and also its flag carrier with headquarter at Brussels Airport. The airline offers charter services, crew training, and maintenance. As of yet, it covers over 90 destinations in Europe, Africa, North American and Asia. Lufthansa who has already purchased 45% of company’s share announced to purchase the remainder for 2.6 million Euros.
The airline was created by merging SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express. It started its operations on 25 March 2017. It also joined Star Alliance as part of the deal with Lufthansa.
It also became a member of Lufthansa’s frequent flyer program in 2009. In the same year, it announced to start a new airline, Korongo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was launched in 2012 but was shut down only after two years of its inauguration in 2015.
Airbus A330-300 joined the fleet and the numbers of destinations were increased after adding Accra, Cotonou, Lome, and Ouagadougou. Side by side, the airline continued to take maintenance projects and undertook a new project with Sabena Technics for maintenance of A330 and Boeing 737 in 2010 where 73 Sabena employees joined the airlines.
In 2012, it inaugurated the route to New York to become the first Belgian airline to fly to New York in 10 years. The services extended to Washington in 2013 with 5 flights a week. The journey never ended and they started flights to Mumbai by a new Airbus A330-220 in 2017 scheduling 5 flights a week.
It codeshares with Adria Airways, Air Canada, Air India, Air Malta, BMI Regional Wurowings, Hainan Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Baltic and Aegean Airlines to name a few.
